Important Insurance Information

People frequently ask us what type of insurance coverage they should carry. This is an important question because of the skyrocketing cost of healthcare, and the large number of drivers with little or no insurance on their automobile.

The cost of medical care has been rising at an alarming rate over the last decade. A trip to the emergency room can cost thousands of dollars, and result in overwhelming debt. In addition to the high cost of healthcare, the cost to repair or replace your motorcycle after an accident can cost thousands of dollars. While you can not control whether or not you are in an accident, and you can't be sure that the person who causes the accident has insurance (or adequate insurance), you have the ability to protect yourself.

The way you can protect yourself from an uninsured motorist is to purchase “underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage” from a reputable, solvent insurance company. Underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage compensates people, who have been injured by a person with inadequate or no liability insurance, for the following things: hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment, scarring, disfigurement, disability, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, loss of consortium, pain and suffering, loss of earnings, and loss of ability to earn money. Underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage is critical. We can't tell you how many of our clients were seriously injured, and incurred huge debts, and disabilities at the hands of an uninsured/underinsured driver.

The other type of insurance we recommend is “collision coverage.” Collision coverage compensates you for damage to your motorcycle caused by an uninsured driver.

When you purchase the recommended insurance, your insurance company will give you a choice of how much insurance you can purchase. We recommend purchasing a minimum of $100,000.00 per person/$300,000.00 per accident of underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage. The reason we recommend so much insurance is that medical treatment and hospitalization is so expensive. Even a relatively minor accident can result in thousands of dollars of medical bills, and if you are seriously injured, you will want as much insurance coverage as possible.

While you can't completely eliminate the possibility of being injured on your motorcycle, you can reduce the potential effects of being involved in an accident by buying underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage from a reputable insurance company. If you have any questions about insurance, you should contact a reputable insurance company.
